The Split Doors Remain Functional

MINI has revealed the "Clubman Concept," indicating the direction for the next MINI Clubman, at the Geneva Motor Show currently underway in Switzerland.

The third generation of the MINI, which had its double world premiere at theTokyo Motor ShowinLA Auto Showand thethird generation "MINI"is the second variation to follow the hatchback model.

The most significant change compared to the previous generation is the number of doors. Previously, only the rear right side of the body featured the traditional "Clubdoor," which opened in the opposite direction to the front door. However, the concept model has been completely redesigned, adopting a conventional four-door style with two doors on each side.

While this may be disappointing for some fans, this change also reflects the strong demand from users who desired a four-door configuration. Of course, the "split doors" that divide the tailgate into two sections, opening outwards like French doors, have been retained and are also featured in this model.

The body size has also been increased, similar to the hatchback model. With a length of 4,223mm, a width of 1,844mm (excluding mirrors), and a height of 1,450mm, this represents an increase of 262mm in length, 161mm in width, and 24mm in height compared to the previous Clubman.

Nevertheless, its appearance, with the hexagonal radiator grille and oval headlights, clearly asserts its identity as a "MINI" family member. Meanwhile, the taillights have shifted from a vertical to a horizontal orientation, giving it a more modern impression.

The Clubman Concept's body color is a warm berry red, with a metallic "blade" finish on the roof. Furthermore, the bumper, integrated with the front grille, is painted in black chrome, enhancing the car's elegance.

Aerodynamically, the Clubman features exclusive treatments not found on the hatchback. The "Air Breather," which suppresses turbulence around the wheels and reduces air resistance, is adopted by MINI for the first time. Additionally, the two-part rear spoiler, designed to match the split rear doors, is another new icon that characterizes this vehicle.

A Glimpse at the Next-Generation Toggle Switches

The Clubman Concept has evolved into a more convenient vehicle than ever before, thanks to its larger body size and the addition of four doors. The interior features seats for five, combining vibrant sky-blue nubuck leather with black Nappa leather, while the dashboard is adorned with berry red enamel leather matching the body color.

Additionally, the door panels are luxuriously finished with grey tweed fabric, and accents of bronze-like silver parts are strategically placed, guiding the interior design towards a classical yet glamorous and sporty direction.

On the other hand, the small chrome buttons on the center console and beside the seats are engraved with Union Jacks, demonstrating that playfulness has not been forgotten alongside luxury. This attention to detail is truly characteristic of "MINI."

The instrument panel design, similar to the new MINI, features a large central monitor and extensive use of leather and chrome plating for a refined and simple finish. Of course, this layout is based on a concept car. However, the three toggle switches on the center console may hold potential for future development in some form.

These, which MINI deliberately calls "Three 'intelligent' toggles," are equipped with a 160mm x 150mm LCD screen in front of the switches, allowing them to perform various functions depending on the application. They can serve as a music player or a gateway to the internet, and their programs can be freely changed.

The Clubman Concept, unveiled at Geneva, marks a significant step. MINI will first begin shipping the third-generation new hatchback model this spring, with the production model of the Clubman expected to debut by the end of the year. For MINI fans, this promises to be an exciting and eagerly anticipated period.
