Fuel Efficiency Significantly Improved

The "C3", a 5-door hatchback that serves as Citroen's entry model in Japan. Just last July, it received a facelift that included the "Zenith" panoramic windscreen and extended the "double chevron" Citroen emblem to the headlights.

For this C3 and the "DS3," a sporty and compact model within the avant-garde DS line, its basic grade now features a new powertrain combining a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with a 5-speed single-clutch transmission, the "ETG5."

The engine is a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder DOHC unit developed by the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group, producing a maximum output of 60 kW (82 ps) at 5,750 rpm and a peak torque of 118 Nm (12.0 kgm) at 2,750 rpm. It achieves a 20 percent weight reduction and a more compact size compared to the previous 1.4-liter engine, incorporating continuously variable valve timing (VVT) for optimized combustion efficiency. The transmission is a newly developed 5-speed ETG with a single clutch, featuring a smooth gear shift program, creep function, and hill start assist. Incidentally, this powertrain is the same as the Puretech found in the Peugeot "208".



Additionally, a new idling stop function has been adopted, resulting in a significant improvement in JC08 mode fuel economy: approximately 57 percent higher at 19.0 km/ℓ for the "C3" compared to the previous 1.6-liter engine and 4-speed automatic model, and approximately 49 percent higher at 18.6 km/ℓ for the "DS3 Chic."

While the "DS3" will continue to be sold with the "Sport Chic" model, which pairs a 1.6-liter engine with a 6-speed manual transmission, both grades will now come standard with an 8-speaker HiFi audio system, aligning with the new engine's introduction in the Chic. Furthermore, new color combinations, including Blanc Banquise and Bleu Infini, have been added to the lineup.

Prices, including the 5% consumption tax, start at 2.03 million yen for the "C3," which is 70,000 yen less than the previous model. The "DS3 Chic" is priced at 2.47 million yen.
