Cadillac's First Compact SUV, the XT4, Arrives in Japan
On January 15, General Motors Japan announced that the Cadillac XT4, Cadillac's first compact SUV, would go on sale starting January 16. It will be available in three grades: Premium, Sport, and Platinum.
Price | From ¥5.7 million to ¥6.7 million
The Cadillac XT4 is a strategic model that marks Cadillac's first entry into the globally popular compact SUV segment. With a body size of 4,605mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,625mm in height, its exterior, directed by a young designer, boasts an exceptionally refined form. It is said to possess the power to attract customers while conveying Cadillac's DNA.
The front and rear lights utilize cutting-edge LED technology, with the front equipped with LED light blades for low beam, high beam, and daytime running lights. The distinctive Cadillac L-shaped lights extending horizontally emphasize the wide body and commanding presence.
Reflecting the exterior design, the interior is finished with inserts, trim upholstery, and genuine leather seats combining high-quality materials. The flowing straight lines and gentle curves further enhance the cabin's sense of luxury.
It features the Cadillac User Experience with an intuitive interface combining a touchscreen, rotary controller, scroll wheel, and hard buttons. Numerous comfort features are also included, such as a dual-zone climate control system that optimizes temperature for each seat, a 13-speaker BOSE Surround Sound System delivering optimal audio to all occupants, active noise cancellation technology with source control, a rear camera mirror providing a wide rear view, and an air conditioner with ion-generating sterilization (removing dust, pollen, bacteria, odors, and PM2.5 class particles).
The cabin offers class-leading rear-seat legroom as its greatest strength, along with a luggage space capacity of 637 liters (expandable to 1,385 liters).
The powertrain is a direct-injection 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing a maximum output of 169 kW (230 PS) and a peak torque of 350 Nm, exceeding 100 PS per liter. It incorporates industry-first cylinder deactivation technology that shuts down two cylinders under light load, an auto start/stop function, and a twin-scroll turbo system that suppresses turbo lag at low RPMs, providing throttle response comparable to a naturally aspirated engine.
The twin-clutch AWD system, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, can completely disengage power transfer to the rear wheels when necessary, thereby reducing powertrain friction.
In terms of safety, it is equipped with over 20 advanced safety features, including an emergency braking system (front automatic pedestrian braking/rear automatic braking), adaptive cruise control, and side blind zone alert.
Pricing is as follows: Cadillac XT4 Premium at ¥5.7 million, Cadillac XT4 Sport at ¥6.4 million, and Cadillac XT4 Platinum at ¥6.7 million. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in February 2021.
