Next-Gen M3 to Also Differentiate Sedan and Coupe Names
BMW has released a video of the new model planned for release as the successor to the M3. This model is a concept car scheduled to be unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in Monterey, California, on August 18th.
As you may already know, BMW plans to use odd numbers for its sedan series and even numbers for its coupe series going forward. The concept car to be unveiled at Pebble Beach is expected to be a model based on the4 Series (Coupe), which will be called the M4.
The M3 concept, the sedan version to be released with a time lag, should logically be unveiled at theFrankfurt Motor Showas its world premiere.
However, as the names suggest, both are currently treated as concept cars. Following past precedent, both models are expected to feature an exterior design very close to the production version, with some "cosmetic" touches befitting a motor show reveal.
The engine in question is a 3-liter inline-six twin-turbo, codenamed "S55," reportedly producing a maximum output of 420 hp. While the maximum output remains unchanged from the current model, both the M3 sedan and M4 coupe are expected to benefit from significant weight reduction, ensuring exceptional performance without gratuitously pursuing power. The released video also confirms a deep, sporty exhaust note, making fans eager for its debut.
The production version is rumored to be unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. We sincerely hope that the production model will appear with an aggressive design not significantly different from the concept, which already boasts a sporty look.
