A Lawnmower Exceeding 100ps Appears!
Honda's racing division has created the world's fastest lawnmower. The project was undertaken by Team Dynamics, Honda's partner in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), who built it while preserving the original lawnmower's appearance as much as possible.
The base for this machine is the "HONDA HF2620" ride-on mower, known as a "lawn tractor," primarily sold outside Japan. It is originally equipped with a 614cc V-twin OHV engine producing 20ps.
Team Dynamics then subjected this to thorough tuning.
The tuning involved a newly designed chassis made of chromoly steel, with suspension components, including the wheels, borrowed from an ATV (all-terrain vehicle). It also features a Cobra bucket seat, Sparco steering wheel, and Scorpion exhaust system. To reduce weight, the cutting deck was replaced with a fiberglass version.
These enhancements and weight reductions were applied throughout the vehicle. The standard curb weight of 254kg was reduced to 140kg, a saving of over 100kg.
The engine was also replaced with a 996cc V-twin DOHC engine from Honda's sportbike, the "VTR 1000F." As a result, the maximum output is 81kW (109ps), more than five times the original. Maximum torque is 96Nm. The power-to-weight ratio is an astonishing 1.28, comparable to that of a racing car.
The transmission is also the 6-speed gearbox from the VTR 1000F, integrated into the engine casing. This allows the fastest lawn tractor to achieve 0-60mph in 4 seconds and a top speed of 213 km/h.
Despite its immense power, the lawnmower's functionality remains intact, and it can, of course, be used for "ordinary lawn mowing." It cuts grass using wire cutters that rotate at 4,000 rpm via a motor. Its work efficiency has also been significantly improved, allowing it to mow lawns at speeds up to 24 km/h, more than double that of the base HF2620.
A video has been released showing racer Gordon "Flash" Shedden, the 2012 driver's champion in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) driving the Honda Yuasa Racing Civic Turbo, tearing up a garden. The video offers a glimpse of its extraordinary performance. Everything, including the engine sound, is incredibly powerful. We highly recommend watching it.
