"As a group of passionate car enthusiasts, we built the car we want to drive. This is a driver's car. We've concentrated our motorsport experience and technology onto the already highly refined chassis of the S60."
The S60 Polestar, proudly presented by Volvo's motorsport division Polestar, is Volvo's sportiest road car, slated for an initial launch in the Austrian market in late June 2013.
Developed through thousands of kilometers of testing on roads ranging from the Autobahn to the mountain passes of Spain and the frozen landscapes of Sweden, with participation from factory team drivers, its completion has been achieved.
Featuring bespoke Öhlins dampers and Brembo brake pads, along with thorough chassis tuning, its racing-inspired and powerful exterior is enhanced by a front splitter, rear wing, and diffuser.
The engine is a straight-six T6. While the standard T6 engine produces 224kW and 440Nm, modifications including a larger turbine, new intercooler, racing exhaust, and revised engine mapping boost output to 257kW (350bhp) at 5,700rpm and over 500Nm of peak torque between 2,800 and 4,750rpm.
This engine is paired with a Haldex all-wheel-drive system that distributes torque more towards the rear wheels, and an Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission with a launch control function. It reportedly accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
The weight is 1,684kg, the same as theS60 T6 R-Designmodel. It is fitted with 235/40R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Furthermore, the exterior and interior are enhanced with exclusive door trim plates, badges on the front, rear, and engine, a dedicated shift knob, and black door mirror covers.
Naturally, the S60 Polestar inherits all the safety features of the S60. This marks the arrival of a flagship model that, in line with Volvo's recent direction, emphasizes a sporty image alongside safety.
