BMW i3: New Model Features Expanded Battery Capacity

On Wednesday, February 6, BMW announced improvements to its compact EV, the "i3," including an approximately 30 percent increase in battery capacity. The "i3 New Battery (120Ah)" is now available for purchase.

Up to 360km Range on a Single Charge

Launched in April 2014 as the compact EV from BMW's sub-brand "BMW i," thei3" has undergone improvements, including the adoption of a new 120Ah battery.

The improved new lithium-ion battery offers approximately 30 percent more capacity. Total power has increased from 33kWh to 42kWh, extending the driving range on a single charge to 360km under the new WLTC fuel consumption standard, and up to 466km for models equipped with the range extender engine.

The "i3 New Battery (120Ah)" also supports CHAdeMO fast charging, reaching 80 percent charge in approximately 50 minutes. BMW is also offering "Charge Now," providing 12 months of free access to public charging services for i model customers.

The electric motor remains unchanged, producing a maximum output of 125kW (170ps) and peak torque of 250Nm, with 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.3 seconds.

Inside, in addition to the standard "Atelier" trim with its cool and sophisticated impression, customers can now choose from three interior styles: the modern and natural "Lodge," and the luxurious "Suite."

Pricing starts at 5.43 million yen for the i3 and 5.92 million yen for the model with the range extender.
