Arriving Almost Exactly as the Concept

The previous generation of the Citroën "C4 Picasso," a stretched version of which was imported to Japan and well-received, has had the details of its successor finally revealed.

The front, with its slim LED daytime running lights extending from the radiator grille line and separated from the headlamps, and the rear, featuring 3D-effect rear lights also seen on theDS3"DS3," are visually almost identical to the "Technospace Concept" shown at the Geneva Motor Show, indicating a production model very close to the concept.

The platform is what Peugeot Citroën calls EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform 2). The body dimensions are 4.43m long, 1.83m wide, and 1.61m high. While the overall length is 40mm shorter than the previous model, the front overhang has been reduced by 70mm and the wheelbase extended by 50mm. The engine mounting position is 40-50mm lower, the floor is 20mm lower, and the track width has increased by 82mm at the front and 31mm at the rear.

As a result, the spacious windshield and glass roof create an airy interior with even more room. The trunk capacity has increased by 40 liters to 537 liters compared to the previous model. With the rear seats moved forward, it can expand to 630 liters.

Furthermore, with all four wheels positioned closer to the body's corners and a lower center of gravity, it is expected to offer superior driving stability compared to its predecessor.

The weight has been reduced by up to 140kg compared to the previous model. Additionally, due to aerodynamic refinements, the most environmentally friendly model achieves CO2 emissions of 98g/km, a remarkably excellent level for this class of vehicle. This is achieved by the model equipped with the 1,560cc inline 4-cylinder diesel turbo "e-HDi 90 Airdream" engine, which produces a maximum output of 90ps as its name suggests. Fuel consumption is 3.8ℓ/100km.

The lineup also includes a model that adopts the Euro 6 compliant BlueHDi diesel engine, a first for the Peugeot Citroën Group. The unit adopted for the C4 Picasso boasts a maximum output of 150ps and CO2 emissions of 110g/km.

Initially, two transmission options will be available: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed clutchless manual called "ETG6 (EfficientTronic Gearbox 6)." Citroën proudly claims that the ETG6, equipped with a creep function, surpasses previous gearboxes of this type in terms of efficiency, ride comfort, and responsive driving feel. A 6-speed automatic transmission is also expected to be available in the first half of 2014.

In addition, the new C4 Picasso is equipped with modern features such as the "360 Vision" camera system, which provides a 360-degree view around the vehicle; "Park Assist" for automatic parking using only the accelerator and brake pedals; a function that automatically tightens the front seatbelts in dangerous situations; "Blind Spot Monitoring System" to alert of vehicles in the rear blind spots; and "Active Cruise Control" that automatically maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead up to 25 km/h.

There are 8 body colors available. Wheel sizes of 16, 17, and 18 inches are offered.

After undergoing a total of 2.5 million kilometers of road testing, it will launch in France in June.
