Equipped with a 90kWh Battery for a 470km Range
First unveiled in 2016, the I-PACE, designed and developed from the ground up as a dedicated BEV, is finally launching in Japan.
With a total length of 4,695mm, it offers the interior space of a large SUV, despite being a mid-size SUV comparable to the F-PACE. Its aerodynamically enhanced roof design and EV-specific cab-forward layout contribute to a drag coefficient (Cd) as low as 0.29.
The powertrain features two Jaguar-made permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, one front and one rear. This all-wheel-drive system delivers a maximum output of 294kW (400ps) and peak torque of 696Nm, achieving 0-100km/h in just 4.8 seconds. It is equipped with a 90kWh lithium-ion battery, providing an estimated range of 470km.
The braking system utilizes an electric brake booster that integrates regenerative and mechanical braking. Regenerative braking, selectable between 'high' and 'low' levels, enables 'single-pedal driving'.
The body employs an aluminum architecture, using aluminum for 94 percent of its structure to achieve both strength and lightness. By positioning the battery frame as low as possible, it achieves a 50:50 weight distribution and Jaguar's highest-ever torsional rigidity.
An optional air suspension with continuously variable dampers is available. The vehicle normally rides at 90mm, lowering to 40mm for entry and exit. Despite being an EV, it can reportedly traverse water up to 500mm deep.
AI Learning Optimizes Vehicle Settings
Inside, the low-set seating position creates generous headroom, complemented by ample rear legroom of 890mm. The rear luggage space offers 656 liters, expandable to 1,453 liters by folding the seats. Furthermore, the absence of a transmission and engine allows for additional storage spaces in the front and under the center armrest, effectively utilizing the available room.
The I-PACE also incorporates the latest technology and connectivity features, including the "Smart Settings" function, which marks Jaguar's first use of AI learning. The I-PACE automatically recognizes the driver approaching via the remote key and the car's Bluetooth connection. It then recalls the driver's preferred settings, automatically adjusting climate control, infotainment, and seat position upon entry.
The infotainment system features the "Touch Pro Duo," a dual-touchscreen setup with 10-inch and 5-inch displays, another first for Jaguar. It supports the driver by considering driving history, style, and battery level to ensure safe operation. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a telematics module for over-the-air software updates.
Charging is supported via AC trickle charging up to 7kW and DC fast charging at 100kW. For the Japanese market, it also supports 50kW CHAdeMO standard fast charging. Charging is possible at public facilities such as homes and highway service areas. Charging the battery from 0 to 80 percent takes approximately 85 minutes with 50kW charging, about 40 minutes with 100kW charging, and around 10 hours with 7kW trickle charging.
The I-PACE is available in 12 body colors. Pricing starts at ¥9.59 million for the entry-level "S" grade, ¥10.64 million for the "SE," ¥11.62 million for the "HSE," and ¥13.12 million for the "First Edition."
