The A8: Achieving Peak Environmental Performance

Following the "A6 Hybrid," Audi Japan is introducing two hybrid models to Japan. First, let's introduce the"A8""A8 Hybrid," which will be added to the.

This model employs the same powertrain as the A6 Hybrid, connecting a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine and an electric motor via a clutch. It will be exclusively front-wheel drive for the A8 lineup. The system delivers a maximum output of 180 kW (245 ps) and a peak torque of 480 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 235 km/h. Regarding its environmental performance, it can travel approximately 3 km on battery power alone. While achieving 6.3 L/100 km in EU measurements, it records an exceptional 13.8 km/L in the JC08 mode, a remarkable figure considering the A8's class.

Like the A6 Hybrid, the 19-inch wheels are unique to the hybrid model. Otherwise, it shares features with the A8, including "Audi drive select," "adaptive air suspension," and a lightweight body realized by the "Audi Space Frame." Standard equipment includes LED headlights, seats with a massage function, and the Bose surround sound system, with an optional Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System. The amenities are advanced and luxurious.

The price is 9.48 million yen. It is a limited edition of 120 units, available only in right-hand drive. Deliveries begin February 1st.

The Q5 Hybrid: Audi's First Hybrid quattro Model

Meanwhile, the "Q5 Hybrid" marks Audi's first quattro hybrid model in Japan, meaning it's an all-wheel-drive hybrid. It combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI gasoline engine with a maximum output of 155 kW (211 ps) and peak torque of 350 Nm, with an electric motor providing 40 kW (54 ps) and 210 Nm. The system delivers a combined maximum output of 180 kW (245 ps) and 480 Nm of torque. The electric motor is integrated via a multi-plate clutch into the 8-speed Tiptronic transmission, following the same mechanism as the A8 Hybrid and A6 Hybrid. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and has a top speed of 225 km/h. Fuel economy is rated at 12.7 km/L in the JC08 mode.

Audi's first hybrid model actually debuted with the Q5, and this is the minor change model now being introduced to Japan. The price is 7.15 million yen. This model is available only in left-hand drive, with deliveries commencing February 1st.
