The Abarth 500 Becomes More Accessible!
From the Alfa Romeo brand,"Giulietta","Mito", and the Chrysler brand's release at the end of 2012,"Ypsilon","300"concluded Fiat Chrysler Japan's 2012 on a strong note. Expected to build on this momentum and accelerate further this year is the Abarth brand.
At Tokyo Auto Salon 2013, Fiat Chrysler Japan President and CEO Pontus Hegstrom announced a lineup refresh for the "Abarth 500," the introduction of the three-model "Abarth 595" series, and the launch of the special limited edition "Abarth 695 Edizione Maserati."
Here, let's first focus on the "Abarth 500" and "Abarth 595."
The "Abarth 500" maintains its enhanced driving performance derived from the "Fiat 500," while significantly reducing its price from the previous 2.99 million yen to 2.69 million yen through revisions to its equipment, such as changing the seats from leather to fabric and the air conditioning from fully automatic to manual.
The "Abarth 595" series is newly introduced. Similar to the "Abarth 500" equipped with the "esseesse kit" performance parts, the "Abarth 595" is a variant of the "Abarth 500" that produces a maximum output of 160ps from its 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, with corresponding chassis enhancements.
A notable feature is the availability of a 5-speed semi-automatic transmission. Previously, the Abarth 500 was only available with a 5-speed manual, so this should strongly appeal to those who were hesitant about that.
There are three model variations in the "Abarth 595" series: "Turismo" (3.19 million yen), emphasizing comfort and premium feel; "Competizione" (3.39 million yen), emphasizing sportiness; and the "Turismo" convertible version, "Abarth 595C Turismo" (3.49 million yen).
All four models feature right-hand drive and went on sale January 11th.
