The "C3 Picasso," a multi-purpose vehicle based on the Citroen "C3," was first shown as a concept at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and has been on sale since 2009. Although not officially introduced in Japan, a modernized version featuring a backup monitor, LED daytime running lights, and cornering lights was unveiled at this year's Paris Motor Show.
The C3 Picasso is available with a 1.4-liter VTi (Variable Valve Lift and Timing Injection) engine or a 1.6-liter HDi (High Pressure Direct Injection) diesel engine, forming a diverse lineup based on differences in engine output and other factors.
The announcement states that the manual transmission model equipped with a 1.4-liter VTi engine, delivering a maximum output of 95 bhp and CO2 emissions of 145g/km, starts at £12,995 (approximately ¥1.71 million). The 1.6-liter HDi engine model, with a maximum output of 90 bhp and CO2 emissions of 112g/km, starts at £14,090 (approximately ¥1.86 million).
Until 2011, this model was only available with a manual transmission and no 2-pedal option. Currently, there is a model combining a VTi engine with a maximum output of 120 bhp and CO2 emissions of 137g/km with a single-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission called "6EGS" (starting at £16,130, approximately ¥2.13 million). Models equipped with an engine start/stop system and regenerative braking are also available. As seen in the accompanying photos, the UK version features right-hand drive.
Despite its compact body, the spacious interior and excellent visibility suggest a vehicle with high potential, making us hope for its introduction to Japan.
