A Significant Change in Profile
The BMW i3, a compact electric vehicle from BMW scheduled for market release in 2013, will be joined by the "BMW i3 Concept Coupe," a three-door variant, at the LA Auto Show, held from November 30th to December 9th this year. This marks the third model in the BMW i. brand lineup, following the "BMW i8" and "BMW i3."
The body dimensions are 3,964mm in length, 1,768mm in width, and 1,555mm in height. While these differ from the i3 Concept's 3,845mm length, 1,766mm width, and 1,537mm height, the wheelbase remains the same at 2,570mm. The powertrain is also identical, featuring an electric motor that produces a maximum output of 125kW (170ps) and a peak torque of 250Nm, offering a driving range of 160km. Tire sizes are 155/60R20 for the front and 175/55R20 for the rear.
The newly released photos showcase a distinctive two-tone exterior and design modifications on the door panels and front apron compared to the i3 Concept. A particularly striking feature is the side profile, where the line dips just behind the front door. However, the fundamental structure remains consistent with the i3, featuring the powertrain positioned at the base of the vehicle and the passenger cell, constructed from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and referred to as the "Life Module," situated above it.
BMW i. incorporates BMW ConnectedDrive, which enables essential features for EV use, such as integration with various information networks and smartphone connectivity. While the "i8" offers aspects of a sports car, the "i3" is designed with a focus on urban commuting.
