The "Supra" featured on the model announced this time is Toyota's flagship sports car, cherished alongside the "2000GT." It first appeared in North America in 1978 (A40 model) and domestically in 1986 (A70 model), with production ceasing in 2002 (A80 model). This GR Supra Racing Concept is said to be a concept model that resurrects the Supra as a racing car after a 16-year hiatus.
Developed by Toyota Motorsport GmbH, Toyota's European motorsport hub, it aims to be "a new sports car offering the world's highest level of Fun to Drive."
The exterior features a traditional sports car FR two-door coupe style with a long-nose, short-deck silhouette. The body, made of lightweight, high-rigidity carbon composite material, measures 4,574mm in length, 2,048mm in width, and 1,230mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,470mm. The widely flared fenders on both sides, large rear wing, and rear diffuser were developed to achieve superior aerodynamic performance and driving dynamics.
In addition to race-specific suspension, wheels, tires, and brakes, the interior incorporates various racing equipment, including a rear-view monitor display, racing seats, a steering wheel with paddle shifters, column, pedals, and a roll cage.
Furthermore, this GR Supra Racing Concept is scheduled to be added to the PlayStation 4 racing game "Gran Turismo Sport" in an April update.
