AI-Powered Concept Car "e-EVOLUTION CONCEPT" Makes World Debut
At this year's Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi will present the "e-Evolution Concept," a concept car hinting at the company's future direction in vehicle development, making its world premiere. Additionally, the new compact SUV "Eclipse Cross," scheduled for release next spring, will have its Japan premiere.
The e-Evolution Concept is a next-generation high-performance EV that fuses and evolves the company's core strengths in EV technology and SUV know-how, represented by its four-wheel control technology. It incorporates new AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology, offering a crossover SUV experience that delivers safe and comfortable driving, precisely aligned with the driver's intentions under any weather or road conditions.
The drivetrain employs a triple-motor 4WD system, featuring one motor at the front and a newly developed "Dual Motor AYC" unit at the rear. During driving, the onboard AI utilizes numerous sensors to perceive the changing road and traffic conditions, reads the driver's intentions from their immediate actions, and provides assistance to ensure safe and comfortable driving, regardless of their skill level. Furthermore, the onboard AI, having assessed the driver's abilities, can suggest training menus to improve them, offering advice through voice interaction and the large full-width display.
The Eclipse Cross (Japanese specification) is a coupe SUV that blends the dynamic mobility of an SUV with a stylish coupe form. It is characterized by its distinctive design, connectivity, and a reassuring driving feel provided by its four-wheel control technology. This model will make its Japan debut, with sales scheduled to begin next spring. Mitsubishi will also exhibit six of its core domestic models.
In its technology showcase, Mitsubishi will feature its "AI Personal Assistant" and "Smart Speaker" systems. The AI Personal Assistant is a function that leverages artificial intelligence and connected car technology to provide a new experience, offering appropriate driving information based on a deep understanding of the occupants' needs and supporting communication between the driver and their family at home. It can link with a wide variety of devices and content; for example, by connecting with a drone, users can view the road conditions ahead or enjoy footage of their own driving.
The Smart Speaker exhibit will demonstrate voice recognition and its integration with the car, including functions such as turning on headlights, adjusting the cabin temperature, and locking doors.
