All-New Fourth-Generation Renault Mégane Announced
On Wednesday, October 4, Renault Japon announced the all-new, fourth-generation Renault “MéganeMégane.” The new model will be available in three variants: the hatchback “GT Line” and “GT,” and the station wagon “Sport Tourer GT.” Key features include the four-wheel steering system “4CONTROL” and advanced driver-assistance systems. Sales will commence on Thursday, November 9.

Equipped with Four-Wheel Steering System “4CONTROL”
The new Mégane, Renault's mid-size model, is finally arriving in Japan.
The “4CONTROL” four-wheel steering system, featured in the “Mégane GT” and “Mégane Sport Tourer GT,” enhances cornering stability by turning the front and rear wheels in the same direction at speeds above approximately 60 km/h (above 80 km/h in Sport mode). Below these speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front, reducing the turning radius. The minimum turning radius is 5.2 meters (in-house measurement) for models equipped with the system, a reduction of 0.4 meters compared to the 5.6 meters of the GT Line without the system, making parking and U-turns significantly easier.
In emergency situations, the system analyzes the steering wheel's rotation speed and increases the rear tire's steering angle to stabilize the vehicle's movement.
The steering is controlled by an electronic actuator that moves the rear tire tie rods (connecting rods that determine tire movement). The steering angle (up to 2.7 degrees) is automatically determined through 100 calculations per second. This system operates regardless of the driving mode, dramatically improving cornering performance without compromising comfort, delivering an unprecedentedly sporty and dynamic driving feel.
The powertrain for the GT and Sport Tourer GT models is a 1.6-liter direct-injection turbocharged inline-4 engine producing a maximum output of 205 ps at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 280 Nm at 2,400 rpm. The GT Line is equipped with a 1.2-liter direct-injection turbocharged inline-4 engine delivering 132 ps at 5,500 rpm and 205 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Both are paired with an electronically controlled 7-speed dual-clutch (7EDC) transmission.
The chassis utilizes the C/D platform from the Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF (Common Module Family). The 1.6-liter models feature specialized tuning by Renault Sport, along with dedicated springs, dampers, anti-roll bars, steering, and larger brake discs to support sporty driving.
The exterior design incorporates the latest Renault design language, featuring C-shaped daytime running LED headlights and continuous 3D rear lamps that enhance the sense of width and three-dimensionality front and rear. Lines converging forward on the lower body and hood create a dynamic feel along the sides.
Furthermore, by revising the suspension geometry and mounting the dampers at a more reclined angle, the gap between the tires and wheel arches is reduced, enhancing the sporty appearance.

Evolved Interface
The interior enhances its premium feel with Alcantara integrated sports seats and a Nappa leather steering wheel (GT, GT Line). It also features an upgraded interface, including a 7-inch multifunction touchscreen on the center console called “Renault R-Link 2,” a 7-inch full-color TFT meter with customizable display patterns and colors, and the R-Link 2 multimedia system.
Renault R-Link 2 allows customization of vehicle settings, including driving modes, ambient lighting (5 colors), climate control, and engine sound (3 patterns). The driving modes include “Comfort” prioritizing a smooth ride, the default “Neutral,” “Sport” for spirited driving, and “Personal” for individual setting adjustments. In Sport mode, the “Launch Control” function for maximum acceleration and the “Multi-Shift Down” function for rapid downshifts are available.
The advanced driver-assistance system “ADAS” analyzes 360-degree information around the vehicle using 12 sensors and 2 cameras (front and rear), along with a front millimeter-wave radar. Settings are managed through the R-Link 2 multimedia/vehicle control system. Features include a distance warning system operating from 30 km/h to 200 km/h, an emergency brake support system from 30 km/h to 140 km/h, and a lane departure warning system above 70 km/h. The 1.6-liter models also include a blind-spot detection system and an Easy Park Assist function that automatically controls the steering for parallel parking and backing into a garage.
Prices are ¥2.63 million for the GT Line, ¥3.34 million for the GT, and ¥3.54 million for the Sport Tourer GT.
