CLS Shooting Brake Launched in Japan

The station wagon model, based on the iconic four-door coupe "CLS-Class," is named "Shooting Brake," a term derived from English, referring to a vehicle for aristocratic hunting excursions. It embodies the pursuit of both practicality and refined taste, a hallmark of Mercedes-Benz.CLS Shooting Brakehas finally arrived in Japan. It was unveiled as the key visual for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week TOKYO, heralding its opening.

First CLS-Class All-Wheel Drive Model Also Appears

At the 2010 Beijing Motor ShowConcept Modelwas announced, and on October 6th this year,European Salesjust began. The Mercedes-Benz four-door wagon "CLS Shooting Brake" has already been unveiled and sales have commenced in Japan.

According to Mercedes-Benz Japan, this "CLS Shooting Brake" belongs to a new concept that merges the beautiful styling of a coupe with practicality, termed "Sport Coupe Tourer." Key features include seating for five, a luggage capacity of up to 1,550 liters, the introduction of the "4MATIC" full-time all-wheel-drive system (a first for the CLS-Class), and premium optional features such as the "designo wood floor."

Japanese Lineup: Two Grades Plus One AMG Model; Limited Edition 1 Also Available

The Japanese market will feature three grades. Additionally, a limited edition of 50 units, the "CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake Edition 1," will be offered.

The "CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY Shooting Brake" is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 direct-injection gasoline engine (maximum output 225 kW (306 hp), maximum torque 370 Nm) paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission "7G-TRONIC PLUS." It also features a self-leveling rear air suspension that maintains a constant ride height regardless of passenger load or cargo, contributing to a refined ride and stable driving performance.

The "CLS 550 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY Shooting Brake" is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 twin-turbo direct-injection engine (maximum output 408 hp, maximum torque 600 Nm). It incorporates the "4MATIC" full-time all-wheel-drive system for the first time in the CLS-Class, enhancing traction and safety on slippery surfaces.

And the top-tier grade is theCLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake." This model houses AMG's new-generation 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo direct-injection engine (maximum output 386 kW (524 hp), maximum torque 700 Nm), which has already been featured in models like the "SL 63 AMG."

With an impressive 0-100 km/h acceleration of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited), the performance is overwhelming. Furthermore, the interior, clad in leather including Seminarian leather seats, offers an exclusive finish befitting a high-performance model.

Additionally, a limited edition of 50 units, the "CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake Edition 1," is also available for this "CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake." Its engine specifications are further enhanced compared to the "CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake," with a maximum output increased by 24 kW (33 hp) to 410 kW (557 hp) and maximum torque increased by 100 Nm to 800 Nm.

This Edition 1 features 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke forged alloy wheels painted in titanium grey. In addition to the standard ten body colors, a matte finish "designo Magno Allanite Grey" (¥510,000) is available as an option.

The interior is upholstered in the Edition 1 exclusive "designo Platinum White Pearl" leather, complemented by a "designo DINAMICA Black roof liner." The trim is upgraded to "AMG Carbon interior trim," and the steering wheel to the "AMG Performance steering wheel."

The "designo wood floor (with EASY-PACK fix kit)," which enhances the characteristic look of the CLS Shooting Brake with wood panels of American cherry and smoked oak stripes, is available as a ¥500,000 option for all models. Each piece is handcrafted by artisans.

Another eye-catching feature is the "Rear Entertainment System," available as a ¥120,000 option, allowing rear passengers to enjoy separate video and audio content using wireless headphones.
Additionally, the "Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system" is offered as a ¥400,000 option.

Pricing is as follows: "CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY Shooting Brake" at ¥9.7 million (right-hand drive only), "CLS 550 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY Shooting Brake" at ¥12.4 million (left-hand drive only), "CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake" at ¥16.8 million (left-hand drive only), and the "CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake Edition 1" at ¥18 million (left-hand drive only).
