AMG 4.0-Liter V8 Engine Retuned for Aston Martin Performance

The DB11" which landed in Japan last September, was previously only available with a 5.2-liter V12 twin-turbo engine. Now, a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo model has been added.

The engine, supplied by technical partner Mercedes-AMG, produces a maximum output of 510 ps and a maximum torque of 675 Nm. While it produces 98 ps and 25 Nm less than the V12 model, it achieves 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h. Environmental performance has also improved, with CO2 emissions of 230 g/km and fuel efficiency of 12.1 km/ℓ in the EU combined cycle.

To optimize the V8 engine for the DB11, Aston Martin's engineering team fitted dedicated air intakes, an exhaust system, and a wet-sump lubrication system. Furthermore, the V8 engine's electronic calibration was adjusted, and new ECU software was developed. By reprogramming the engine and throttle mapping, they pursued the unique engine feel and sound characteristic of Aston Martin.

In addition, new engine mounts and other components were designed. Mounting the engine lower lowers the center of gravity, and placing the engine at the center of the wheelbase improves agility, according to Aston Martin. The suspension bushes, geometry, anti-roll bars, springs, and dampers have also been redesigned, differentiating it from the V12.

The exterior also differs slightly, with the V8 model featuring dedicated alloy wheels. While the V12 model had four bonnet vents, the V8 model has two. The interior, however, uses the same standard equipment grades as the V12. Options such as the "Q by Aston Martin Collection" are also available, as with the V12.

The V8-engined DB11 has already gone on sale in Europe and other regions. Prices are set at £144,900 (approximately ¥21 million) in the UK and $198,995 (approximately ¥22.35 million) in the United States.
