A Special Rolls-Royce Dressed in Black: The Dawn Black Badge

On Wednesday, June 28, Rolls-Royce unveiled the "Black Badge," a "Dawn" convertible model clad in an obsidian black body color. The model will have its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which opens in the UK on Thursday, June 29. The very next day, June 30, it will have its Asia premiere at Roppongi Hills Arena in Tokyo. It will be on display until Sunday, July 2.

Enhanced Powertrain: 0-100 km/h in 4.9 Seconds Despite 2.5 Tons

The "Black Badge," a special model previously offered for theGhost" and the "Wraith"Wraith Black Badge," which emphasizes shadow with an exclusive black color, has now been applied to the convertible model "Dawn" which arrived in Japan last year.

The most distinctive feature of the Black Badge is its black color, which Rolls-Royce describes as "deep, dark, and shadowed." Its construction utilizes Rolls-Royce's aircraft manufacturing technology, weaving ultra-fine aerospace-grade aluminum threads, each 0.014mm in diameter, together and bonding them to carbon fiber. The surface is coated with six layers of lacquer, then cured for 72 hours. Finally, it is polished to a mirror finish by hand.

Not only the body color but also the interior is unified in black. The black leather is accented with orange highlights, creating a luxurious interior that complements the exterior.

The powertrain has also been enhanced through tuning. The 6.6-liter V12 twin-turbo engine produces a maximum output of 442 kW (593 bhp), an increase of 23 ps over the standard model, and a maximum torque of 840 Nm, an increase of 60 Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission whose characteristic map has been modified exclusively for the Dawn Black Badge.

Although the body uses a significant amount of carbon, it weighs 2,560 kg. However, it achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.9 seconds, with its top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Additionally, the brake diameter has been increased by one inch compared to the standard model. Rolls-Royce claims this, along with engine braking, contributes to rapid deceleration. The steering rack has also been adjusted. Steering adjustments are made according to vehicle speed, allowing the driver to enjoy more reassuring handling.

The day after its world premiere, on June 30, it will make its Asia premiere at Roppongi Hills Arena in Japan. In addition to the "Dawn Black Badge," a total of four Rolls-Royce models will be on display: the "Ghost Black Badge," "Wraith," and "Dawn."

Rolls-Royce is currently accepting reservations for the Dawn Black Badge.
