The "e-tron Sportback concept," Audi's second EV concept, made its world premiere. Audi's first EV, the "e-tron," was2015 Frankfurt Motor Show unveiled at thee-tron quattro concept and is scheduled for production in 2018.
The "e-tron Sportback concept," which can be described as a large coupe, measures 4.9 meters long, 1.98 meters wide, and 1.53 meters high. This four-door model is close in size to theA7, and is fitted with large 23-inch wheels.
The drivetrain configuration is the same as that planned for Audi's production EVs. It features one electric motor on the front axle and two on the rear axle, providing Audi's signature quattro all-wheel drive.
These three motors combined produce a maximum output of 320 kW, or 370 kW with boost, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The vehicle is equipped with a 95 kWh water-cooled lithium-ion battery, offering a range exceeding 500 km under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).
The brightly lit interior features LED units for optimal visibility day or night. Furthermore, a surface combining LEDs and micro-mirrors can create various animations and light patterns, which Audi states can facilitate communication with the surroundings.
Additionally, the side mirrors have been replaced by small cameras mounted on the sides of the body. These cameras project images onto dedicated displays on the doors, reducing air resistance, wind noise, and blind spots. This system is also slated for future production models.
This "e-tron Sportback concept" is also intended for commercialization, with production scheduled to begin in 2019.
