A tough, sporty character born from reduced rear volume
Following the recently announced Q3, the Q3 Sportback has arrived. This is the second generation for the Q3 Sportback. The design features a roofline that slopes down from the A-pillar to the rear, 29mm lower than the SUV Q3, giving it a sportier exterior and a silhouette that conveys greater speed.
Another characteristic is the wider, tougher impression created by the two powerful, muscle-like quattro blisters, symbolizing all-wheel drive, which are more pronounced due to the reduced rear volume. Incidentally, the drag coefficient (Cd value) is recorded at 0.3.
Wheel designs range from the standard 18 inches up to a maximum of 20 inches, and with the full model change, the tire width has been increased from 215mm to 235mm.
The lighting technology, like the Q3, features the latest full-size digital matrix LED headlights. The adoption of micro-LED modules is said to have significantly improved illumination performance.
It also integrates with driver assistance functions. As one new feature, when the driver changes lanes on the highway and there is a vehicle in the blind spot, active warnings from the lane change assist are displayed on the lane light, allowing important information from the assistance system to be shown within the driver's field of vision and on the road via the headlights.
The interior features a "soft wrap" design with integrated decorative panels that extend across the width from the doors to the entire dashboard, emphasizing a horizontal layout. A digital stage is formed by the central 12.8-inch MMI touch display and the 11.9-inch instrument cluster.
It employs an operating system using Android Automotive OS, and various functions can be operated via the learning-based voice assistant, Audi Assistant.
Furthermore, a new steering wheel control unit has been adopted. By integrating the two steering column levers, it has also contributed to an increase in storage space in the center console.
The right side of the lever functions as the shift selector, and the left side serves as the control element for lights and wipers.
The powertrain lineup is also diverse. The 1.5-liter gasoline engine "1.5 TFSI" and the 2.0-liter diesel engine "2.0 TDI," both producing a maximum output of 110 kW, are equipped with mild hybrid systems.
Additionally, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) "e-hybrid" produces a total system output of 200 kW, with a total battery capacity of 25.7 kWh (net capacity 19.7 kWh), achieving an electric driving range of up to 119 km.
In addition to engine improvements, a newly developed standard steel suspension enhances driving dynamics. Other options include sports suspension and suspension with two-valve damper control.
While the Q3 Sportback is scheduled for sequential sales in its home country of Germany from November, the introduction timing for Japan has not yet been decided. We await further news.
