2015 Tokyo Motor ShowThe production model of the Civic Type R, whose prototype was shown at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and last year's Paris Motor Show, has finally been revealed.

Like the previous generation, the new model will be produced in the UK. Honda claims it was developed to evolve its grand touring performance on public roads, in addition to its circuit driving performance.

The powertrain is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline "VTEC Turbo engine" that produces a maximum output of 320 ps and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The transmission is a 6-speed manual, and it incorporates a rev-matching system that automatically adjusts engine speed to match gear changes, eliminating the need for throttle operation.

To improve dynamic performance, the rear suspension has been changed to a multi-link type, and a new platform with increased rigidity and 20-inch tires have been adopted. In addition, the exterior design has been enhanced for aerodynamics, and the wheels and tread have been widened.

The new Civic Type R is scheduled to go on sale in Europe, Japan, North America, and other countries starting this summer.

Honda also announced its European electrification vision at the Geneva Motor Show. The company aims to replace two-thirds of its European vehicle sales with electrified vehicles such as hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery EVs, and fuel cell vehicles by around 2025.
