Carrying Forward the Next 100 Years

In 2013,Aston Martin Celebrates 100 Yearsas the model to carry the brand forward for the next century, only the name had been revealed. The "DB11" has now made its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Its exterior retains iconic Aston Martin cues, such as the distinctive grille and flared rear end, while incorporating new details based on the latest technology, including a clamshell bonnet that wraps around to the sides, C-pillars with integrated air intakes, and full LED headlights.

The domed bonnet not only enhances the design's elegance but also serves as a pedestrian protection cushion in the event of an accident, without the need for heavy lifting mechanisms or airbags.

The full LED headlights incorporate daytime running lights and low-speed cornering lights for the first time in the brand's history. The rear combination lamps, while inheriting the signature Aston Martin lighting, have also been fully converted to LED.

With dimensions of 4,739mm in length, 1,940mm in width, and 1,279mm in height, the DB11 is 50mm longer and 28mm wider than the DB9. The wheelbase has been extended by 65mm to 2,805mm, allowing the engine to be positioned further forward in a front-midship configuration, optimizing the front-rear weight distribution to 51:49.

The increased body size provides more interior space. Front headroom has increased by 10mm. Rear headroom has expanded by 54mm, and legroom by 87mm, making it the first Aston Martin to offer rear ISOFIX child seat compatibility, enhancing its practicality as a 2+2.

Specially Designed Tires

The engine is a 5.2-liter V12 twin-turbo, designed in-house. It produces a maximum output of 608 ps and a peak torque of 700 Nm, achieving a top speed of 200 mph (approximately 320 km/h) and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph (approximately 99.8 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. Beyond raw power, it incorporates the latest variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation, and idle stop technologies to improve fuel efficiency. The transmission, mounted at the rear of the vehicle, isVanquish and Rapide San 8-speed automatic from ZF, proven in models like the "Vanquish" and "Rapide S."

During the development of the DB11, particular attention was paid to the engine and exhaust sounds. The focus was on carefully tuning the natural sound emitted from the exhaust, rather than using artificial sounds from speakers, and delivering it to the cabin.

In terms of performance, it features electric power steering, the latest Bilstein adaptive damping system, and torque vectoring, which lightly brakes the inner wheel during cornering to improve turn-in. These systems can be comprehensively adjusted across three modes: GT, Sport, and Sport+.

The tires are specially developed "S007" co-developed with Bridgestone. These tires, featuring a unique tread pattern, are sized 225/45R20 for the front and 295/35R20 for the rear, paired with standard 10-spoke wheels. The brakes, housed within, also provide powerful stopping force, with 400mm discs at the front and 360mm discs at the rear.

Two Aerodynamic Features

The DB11 also pursues aerodynamic efficiency with two incorporated features. The first is the "Curlicue," derived from the track-only model "Vulcan", which uses a fin-like intake in the front wheel arch to compress airflow and direct it forcefully behind the side vents, suppressing front-end lift.

The second is the "Aston Martin AeroBlade." This system draws compressed air from the base of the C-pillar, shaped like a funnel, through ducts within the body to the rear end, effectively turning the entire rear of the car into a spoiler to reduce lift. Additionally, a small active spoiler at the rear edge deploys automatically when needed to generate further downforce.

Inside, the instrument panel features a 12-inch TFT LCD and an auxiliary 8-inch display. The navigation and infotainment display, located in the center of the dashboard, is operated via a rotary dial and a touch-sensitive pad with handwriting recognition. This system, adopted with technical cooperation from Daimler, is one manifestation of thepartnership announced in 2013partnership.

Other features include parking assist, a 360-degree camera that provides a bird's-eye view by processing camera images, keyless entry, and a mechanism that raises the steering column when the key is turned off to facilitate entry and exit.
