Following the compact hatchback "DS3" released in 2009,DS3" and the compact crossover "DS4" released in 2011,DS4the new flagship model to complete the DS line, theDS5has finally been announced in Japan. This modern and luxurious model fuses the concepts of a grand tourer and a station wagon. Lines such as the "saber" that extends from above the headlights even further back than the windshield, along with the lines created by the side sills, side windows, roof, and rear fenders, give this DS5, which actually boasts a spacious interior, an exterior impression of being long-nosed, short-decked, compact, and sporty.
While details arecovered in previous reports, the powertrain is the Peugeot Citroën Group's well-regarded 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder twin-scroll turbo engine. This unit, which produces a maximum output of 115 kW (156 PS) at 6,000 rpm and
a maximum torque of 240 Nm at 1,400-3,500 rpm, drives the 1,550 kg body through an Aisin AW 6-speed automatic transmission.
The grade introduced in Japan is the "DS5 Chic." It has been officially decided that two types of options will be available: "Leather Seats" and "Club Leather Seats."
The price is 4 million yen. The optional "Leather Seats" are an additional 250,000 yen. The "Watch Strap" seats, inspired by watch straps, can be chosen from three colors, and the "Club Leather Seats," which are the most distinctive for the DS5, cost an additional 450,000 yen.
As standard equipment for the Japanese market, a "Side & Back Camera" is included. This system automatically displays on a 3.2-inch monitor built into the auto-dimming rearview mirror the view of the blind spot behind the rear left during driving, captured by a camera mounted on the left side mirror, and the view behind the vehicle when reversing, captured by a camera mounted on the lower rear of the body. Other standard features include a head-up display that deploys via a roof switch in the driver's seat, which is designed to resemble an aircraft cockpit; LED position lamps on the exterior; and, for the first time in a Citroën, keyless entry. Safety has earned the highest rating of 5 stars from EURO NCAP.
Exhibitions at dealerships will begin in August, with deliveries also scheduled to start in August.
Additionally, at this announcement event, alongside theDS3 Ultra Prestige, the addition of a model to the "DS4" featuring a 6-speed automatic transmission and "Watch Strap" seats was also announced. It was stated that various other innovations are likely to be prepared for the DS line in the future.
