In its first-quarter 2012 earnings announcement, Ferrari reported continued strong business performance, with sales revenue increasing by 13.2 percent year-on-year to €556.1 million, sales volume to authorized dealers rising by 11.5 percent to 1,733 units, and net profit growing by 17.2 percent to €42.1 million.
The largest market, as in the previous year, was the United States, with strong sales also in the UK, Germany, and the Middle East. In contrast, sales in its home country of Italy saw a significant decline, with 121 units sold, a decrease of 65 units compared to the same period last year. Ferrari attributes this to the country's economic situation and the government's austerity measures.
Sales in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan reached 154 units, continuing a trend of growth. Consequently, at the Shanghai Expo, commencing May 18th, Ferrari will exhibit a wide range of road cars and F1 machines in a 1,000-square-meter space.
Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo commented as follows:
"While 2011 was a year of excellent results, we are very pleased that economic indicators have continued to rise in 2012. Our current lineup is technologically superior, and it's worth noting that fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are 30 percent lower compared to previous lineups. Furthermore, we expect to unveil the new Enzo towards the end of this year. This will be a limited production model and Ferrari's first hybrid car."
It is highly likely that the "new Enzo" previewed here is the model that will adopt the "HY-KERS" hybrid system for its V12 engine, which was unveiled at the Beijing International Motor Show.
Various rumors surround the new Enzo, with reports suggesting the new model will be called the "F70" and that its combined output from the engine and electric motor will reach 920 hp. It is a highly anticipated supercar, with official announcements regarding its design and specifications eagerly awaited.
Incidentally, Ferrari also claims to be a leader in online engagement, with 8 million "friends" on Facebook and nearly 1 million on Google+.
