500 Horsepower Achieved Through Latest Technology and Weight Reduction
4 Series Coupe" of the high-performance " M4 Coupe" based on the "M4 Coupe," the "M4 GTS" has been specially tuned with unique interior and exterior features by BMW's motorsport division, M, and will have its world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show.
While the name has changed to M4 to reflect the base model's designation, the "M4 GTS" follows in the lineage of special models based on the 3 Series Coupe, such as the "M3 GT," "M3 GTS," and "M3 CTR" previously released by BMW.
The powertrain uses the same 3.0-liter inline-six engine as the M4. However, thanks to technologies like the first-ever water injection system in a production car, maximum output has been increased by 69 ps to 368 kW (500 ps), and maximum torque boosted by 50 Nm to 600 Nm. Despite this, fuel economy remains low at 8.3 L/100km (approximately 12.0 km/L), with CO2 emissions at 194 g/km, the same as the M4 Coupe. The top speed reaches 305 km/h (with limiter control), and it achieved a lap time of 7 minutes and 28 seconds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
To achieve this speed, M meticulously implemented weight reduction. Carbon fiber was used for components like the bucket seats and dashboard support pipes. Externally, lightweight materials such as fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) were employed for the engine hood and roof, successfully reducing the weight to 1,510 kg.
Aerodynamic performance has also been enhanced; the large rear wing and front lip spoiler, both made of carbon fiber, work to reduce lift acting on the rear axle.
Inside, premium Alcantara covers are used for the steering wheel and other elements, signifying the M4 GTS's characteristic of being "capable of being driven on both the circuit and the road." Additionally, optional equipment includes a 6-point seatbelt system and a roll bar for mounting behind the front seats, further catering to motorsport enthusiasts.
The tires are staggered in size: 265/35R19 for the front and 285/30R20 for the rear. Sporty differentiation is also evident in the exterior, with orange accents.
The Tokyo Motor Show opens at Tokyo Big Sight on Thursday, October 29. It will be open to the public from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 8.
