Emphasis on Superior Handling
The Subaru BRZ has finally been unveiled, one day after its sister model, the Toyota 86. While the 86 is set to launch on April 6th, the BRZ will go on sale a week earlier, on March 28th.
Subaru developed and produced both the 86 and BRZ, while Toyota handled the design for these sister cars. Both feature the familiar boxer engine and rear-wheel drive. However, while the 86 emphasizes drifting and touge road driving, the BRZ promotes "Pure Handling Delight – A New Dimension of Driving Enjoyment." It leverages its low-center-of-gravity package to ensure solid tire contact, highlighting its superior maneuverability, driving stability, and ride comfort.
There are three grades. Similar to the 86, the "RA" grade, designed as a base for user customization, is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission for ¥2,058,000. The standard "R" grade is ¥2,478,000 for the 6-speed manual and ¥2,546,250 for the 6-speed automatic. The premium "S" grade is ¥2,793,000 for the 6-speed manual and ¥2,871,750 for the 6-speed automatic.
Compared to the 86, which starts under ¥2 million for its base grade, the BRZ exceeds ¥2 million. However, subtle differences in equipment make a direct price comparison difficult. For instance, the BRZ includes auto-leveling headlights as standard even on the base grade, and all BRZ grades feature a digital speedometer, which is only available on the "GT" grade and above for the 86.
