The Car at the Heart of Our Brilliant Future
For over half a century, the partner of Britain's most famous spy and dapper gentleman, James Bond, has been an Aston Martin. As recently reported, a limited edition "DB9 GT Bond Edition" of 150 units worldwide was announced to commemorate the release of the latest film, "Spectre."DB9 GT Bond EditionIn the latest installment, scheduled for release in Japan in December, Bond is seen at the wheel of the "DB10," which Aston Martin produced in a mere 10 units exclusively for the film.DB10
However, the existence of the "DB10" also caused confusion among fans. The "DB10" is purely a movie car and not the successor to the DB9, for which a model change has been rumored. Was this a sign that the traditional "DB" name, which has continued for over half a century, would be retired, with all future models adopting different names like the "Vanquish" or "Rapide"?Vanquish and Rapide—
On September 15, this question was easily answered. It was officially announced that the new model, scheduled for release in 2016, would be named the "DB11." Aston Martin CEO Dr. Andy Palmer stated:
"This name signifies not only our intention to continue developing iconic sports cars with the 'DB' designation, which strongly reflects the brand's heritage, but also signals to the world that our ambitious Second Century Plan is underway. Next year, we will transform our entire model lineup, as well as our corporate scale and global network. The new 'DB11' will be the car at the heart of that brilliant future."
It has been revealed that hints of the next-generation model's styling can be found in the "DB10" created for Bond and the special model announced in March, the "Vulcan."VulcanWhile no details about the "DB11" have been shared yet, anticipation for its announcement next year is already immense.
