80% Charge Possible in 15 Minutes

Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche's "Mission E" is a four-door pure EV sports concept.

The drive system features two permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering a combined output of over 440kW (600ps). It boasts 0-100km/h acceleration in under 3.5 seconds and reaches 200km/h in under 12 seconds. Meanwhile, it also achieves a practical cruising range exceeding 500km.

This powerful motor is said to be nearly identical to the one powering the "919 Hybrid" racing car that won this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. The battery is mounted between the front and rear axles for a low center of gravity and balanced weight distribution. Combined with a four-wheel-drive system utilizing Porsche Torque Vectoring for automatic torque distribution to each wheel, and four-wheel steering, it has achieved a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of under 8 minutes.

Using the 800V "Porsche Turbo Charging" system, it's possible to reach an 80% charge in approximately 15 minutes. Of course, it also supports conventional 400V charging, and wireless charging with coils embedded in the garage floor is also proposed.

The headlights are four-point matrix LEDs, seemingly floating within the air inlets. Sensor arrays are positioned in the center, with the surrounding area serving as indicator lights.

There are no B-pillars, creating a four-door coupe style with coach doors. Side mirrors are replaced by unobtrusive small cameras, with their feeds displayed at the lower corners of the windshield for easy driver visibility.

Intuitive Operation via Gaze and Gesture

The instrument panel features a liquid crystal panel with organic LEDs, displaying five circular meters in typical Porsche fashion. These five meters represent connected car functions, performance, drive, energy, and Sport Chrono. The driver can operate this panel using eye-tracking technology, selecting functions by looking at them and opening menus with a button press on the steering wheel.

When the driver wishes to operate a menu, simply looking at the meter selects it, and pressing a button on the steering wheel opens the relevant menu. The eye-tracking system also adjusts the display position to ensure optimal visibility, even if the driver's seating position or posture changes.

An interior camera mounted on the rearview mirror captures the driver's facial expressions, detecting moments of "enjoyment." When enjoyment is detected, it's expressed as an emoticon on the meter panel and recorded along with driving data such as position and speed, which can then be shared with friends via social networks.

A holographic display extends horizontally from the driver's seat to the passenger side, allowing access to media, navigation, and climate control settings through apps displayed here. Operations are performed via gestures; for example, a closed fist signifies "selection," while an open hand signifies "operation." For detailed input required in certain settings, operation is also possible via the center console's touch display.

Network capabilities allow users to change vehicle settings remotely via Porsche Car Connect using a tablet. Furthermore, updates to vehicle programs, including chassis, powertrain, and infotainment system functions, can be performed through an integrated high-speed data module.

Another remote service offered is a temporary key called a digital key. With the owner's approval, users with this digital key can utilize the Mission E only at times and locations specified by the owner.

The Mission E is a concept model that proposes Porsche's vision for EV sports cars, encompassing dynamic performance, a new communication interface with the driver, and the possibilities offered by network connectivity.
