At the Frankfurt Motor Show, beginning in September, Audi will present the "e tron quattro concept," an electric SUV model.
The e tron quattro is an SUV designed and engineered from the ground up exclusively for EVs. Particular attention has been paid to aerodynamics; the released design sketches show a cabin that is slim from top to bottom, like a coupe, contrasting with the muscular lower half typical of an SUV. The underbody is also flat, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.25 despite its SUV form.
The platform utilizesNew "Q7"the second-generation "Modular Longitudinal Platform" adopted from the new Audi Q7. Leveraging the EV advantage of a four-wheel-drive system that does not require a driveshaft, the cabin is said to offer ample space for four occupants.
To achieve a low center of gravity, the high-capacity lithium-ion battery is positioned beneath the seats, between the front and rear axles. With its superior aerodynamics and large battery capacity, the e tron quattro boasts a driving range of over 500 km.
For the driving dynamics, technology from the electric sports modelR8 e-tron" has also been incorporated. One such element is the adopted layout, featuring one motor at the front and two at the rear to drive all four wheels.
The headlights feature the world's first matrix laser OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology. Furthermore, the interior is equipped with OLED displays, enabling gesture control for functions such as audio and climate control.
Audi aims to develop a production model of a fully electric SUV based on this concept, targeting a release around 2018.
