Excellent Results Recorded in Alternative Fuel Rally
The "Michelin Challenge Bibendum," considered the world's largest forum for sustainable mobility, was held this year from May 18th to 22nd at the former Tempelhof Airport site in Berlin. The venue hosted an exhibition where various companies showcased their latest technologies. Additionally, 120 vehicles featuring alternative fuels and eco-friendly drive concepts gathered. Audi presented five models, including a study model and those nearing mass production, demonstrating their high environmental performance.
A highlight of the "Michelin Challenge Bibendum" is the rally featuring cars that embody the new technologies companies are focusing on. This rally is characterized by its evaluation criteria, which include not only energy consumption and CO2 emissions but also acceleration, handling, and noise levels. This year's rally was held on May 18th, with Audi entering five environmentally conscious vehicles in three different categories.
In the "Battery Electric Vehicle Rally," which covered 125 km through and around the city, the "A3 Sportback e-tron" participated. Its outstanding handling was highly praised, and it finished in a three-way tie for first place with two other vehicles, outperforming 12 rivals.
For the "Intercity Rally," a 300 km loop course through Brandenburg, Audi entered four vehicles: the natural gas-powered "A3 TCNG," the "Q5 HFC" equipped with a fuel cell live system, and the soon-to-be-mass-produced "Q5 Hybrid quattro" and "A8 3.0 TDI." The luxurious sedan A8 3.0 TDI, powered by a 150 kW (204 ps) engine with exceptional fuel efficiency, recorded outstanding figures of 4.9 L/100 km and 129 g/km of CO2 emissions. The A3 TCNG competed against four rivals and secured first place among the internal combustion engine prototypes.
On the final day of the event, May 22nd, an eco-driving challenge was held with 10 "A8 3.0 TDI" vehicles. Ten randomly selected driver teams navigated a 300 km course, competing to achieve the best time with the minimum fuel consumption. The winning team achieved an impressive average fuel economy of 4.7 L/100 km, astonishing the audience.
Furthermore, in the design contest, Audi's "e-gas project," which aims for zero CO2 emissions using renewable energy, received the "Innovation Award." This resulted in Audi's advanced environmental technologies being highly recognized in various forms.
