Responsive Driving and Dynamic Exterior

The Megane, a popular representative of the C-segment in France, enters its third generation with this new model, which debuted in France at the end of 2008. While the three-door "Megane Renault Sport" arrived in Japan in February of this year, the five-door hatchback new Renault Megane has finally come to Japan, bringing with it the Premium and GT lines, each with its own distinct appeal.

The new Megane is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine jointly developed by the Renault-Nissan Alliance. It produces a maximum output of 103kW (140ps) at 6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 195Nm (19.9kgm) at 3,750rpm. Crucially, 87 percent of its maximum torque is available from a low 2,000rpm, enabling responsive driving even in city conditions. This engine achieves a weight comparable to a 1.6-liter engine through the use of lightweight connecting rods, pistons, and valves, as well as a revised cylinder block. The transmission is a CVT with a 6-speed manual mode, offering high-speed and precise control for the first time.

Exterior Crafted Solely with Digital Design Technology

To deliver a more dynamic driving experience, the GT Line has been tuned by Renault Sport. The spring rates have been increased by 19 percent at the front and 10 percent at the rear, with corresponding increases in damping force for both front and rear dampers. The overall height is 12mm lower than the Premium Line, and the roll center is 30mm lower, allowing for cornering characteristic of European cars.

The Premium Line is equipped with 16-inch wheels for comfort, while the GT Line features 17-inch dedicated wheels to enhance driving enjoyment.

The exterior of the new Renault Megane is said to have been created using only digital design technology, a first for Renault. It features flowing body lines and distinctive press lines, creating a sense of dynamism and strong presence. The GT Line further differentiates itself with exclusive exterior design elements, such as a unique front grille design and silver finishers for the front fog lamps.

Rich Color Combinations

The interior, including the embracing seats, is finished in colors that match each line's character: an elegant, light beige for the Premium Line and a sporty dark carbon for the GT Line, both with a French touch.

The Premium Line offers seven body colors, including "Gris Cassiopée Metallic (Gray)" and "Rouge Dîna Metallic (Red)." The GT Line offers five colors, such as "Orange Cayenne Metallic (Orange)" and "Noir Étoile Metallic (Black)." All colors, except for "Blanc Glacier" (White), are metallic.

The new Megane presents two distinct personalities: elegant and sporty. While their driving dynamics differ, both offer the stable and superb ride characteristic of French cars.
