A New Ferrari for the New Ferrarist

On April 19, 2011, at the press day of the Shanghai Auto Show,Ferrari's first four-wheel-drive model, the "FF"was unveiled for the first time in the Asia-Pacific region. The FF is a revolutionary model that embodies Ferrari's strategy of "A Different Ferrari for Different Ferraristi." Let's take this opportunity to review the car's performance.

The engine is a 6.2-liter V12, producing a maximum output of 660 ps at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 683 Nm at 6,000 rpm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 335 km/h.

With fuel consumption of 15.4 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 360 g/km, these figures can be considered respectable given the high performance. For comparison, the 599 GTB Fiorano, another 12-cylinder model, has fuel consumption of 17.9 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 415 g/km, while the 599 GTO has fuel consumption of 17.5 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 411 g/km. This shows that the FF also records favorable figures in terms of environmental performance.

The four-wheel-drive system is Ferrari's unique 4RM system, which distributes torque to the front wheels based on road conditions via computer, while maintaining torque to the rear wheels.

By using magnesium for the interior seat frames and equipping lightweight Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, along with numerous other component refinements, the vehicle's weight has been kept down to 1,880 kg. The power-to-weight ratio is 2.7 kg/ps.

At the same time, the FF is characterized by its consideration for practicality. It features seats and a cabin that can comfortably accommodate four adults, with a trunk capacity of 450 liters. Furthermore, this capacity can be expanded to a maximum of 800 liters by folding down the independently collapsing rear seats.

In addition to the FF, the Shanghai Auto Show also features the "458 Italia" and a "Ferrari California" in Blu Tour de France. Both of these vehicles can be equipped with the "HELE (High Emotion/Low Emission) CO2 reduction system" used in the FF.

Coinciding with this Asia-Pacific premiere, Ferrari Japan has also announced that the FF will be introduced to Japan in July 2011.
