According to a statement released by Toyota North America on March 13th local time, the company expressed concern for the safety of Toyota facilities and partner companies in the Tohoku region. Toyota has established a company-wide emergency response headquarters to assess the damage.

The statement indicated that, as of now, there have been no reports of injuries among employees at the Tokyo headquarters, Higashi-Fuji Plant, Tochigi Office, Yamanashi Office, Toyota Motor Tohoku, or Toyota-affiliated vehicle manufacturers.

While many Toyota group plants were able to restart production facilities after the earthquake on March 11th, production has been halted at Toyota Motor Hokkaido, Toyota Motor Tohoku, Central Motor Miyagi Plant (which produces the Yaris/Vitz), and Kanto Auto Works Iwate Plant (which produces the Scion xB/Toyota bB and Scion xD/Toyota ist). Employees at these facilities have already been evacuated to safe locations.

Currently, investigation teams are conducting detailed assessments of each plant to determine the extent of the damage. Concurrently, they are assessing the situation of suppliers and dealerships, striving to understand the impact on products exported worldwide.

Toyota will suspend production at all domestic plants until the 16th to ensure the safety of its employees and their families. This measure applies not only to Toyota Motor Corporation but also to its affiliated vehicle manufacturing companies.

In this situation, the company prioritizes support for its employees, partner companies, suppliers, and dealerships. Despite the significant damage incurred from this major earthquake, Toyota is donating 300 million yen to support regional relief and recovery efforts as a global corporation.
