Production Model DS4 Unveiled
Following the DS3, a hit in Japan, comes the second model in the DS line: the "DS4." This Geneva Motor Show marks the public debut of its production model. Embodying the brand slogan "Creative Technologie," its body measures 4,270mm long, 1,810mm wide, and 1,530mm high. Its design blends elements of a compact car, crossover, and coupe. While adopting the increasingly popular four-door coupe style, its elevated body shape sets it apart.
Five engine options will be available, led by a direct-injection 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine jointly developed by PSA Peugeot Citroën and BMW Group. While this turbo engine shares displacement and cylinder count with the unit in the already-released DS3, the highest-performance "THP200" unit will be adopted. Its published specifications are a powerful 147kW (200ps) maximum output and 275Nm (28kgm) maximum torque. Other options include the "HDi110" turbodiesel, featuring idling stop and brake energy recovery systems.
Remarkably, even before its release, Citroën announced that the DS4 was chosen as the "Most Beautiful Automobile of the Year" in a contest involving 60,000 internet users from 62 countries. This clearly indicates the significant anticipation surrounding the "DS" model among Citroën enthusiasts and car lovers worldwide.
Average CO2 Emissions Reduced by 5.3g/km to 132.3g/km
In addition to the DS4, various concept and production cars will be exhibited. These include the "DS4 Purple," an innovative concept car with intricate, jewel-like detailing, and also the "C3 Red Block" and "C6 Noir et Blanc."
Also on display will be the "C-ZERO," launched at the end of 2010, the electric vehicle "Berlingo First" co-produced with Venturi Automobile, and the new rally car "DS3 WRC" currently competing in the World Rally Championship. The popular Berlingo, a strong competitor to the Renault Kangoo, will feature the evolved "e-HDi" micro-hybrid technology. As a result of its efforts in promoting zero-emission and hybrid technologies, Citroën achieved a notable reduction in average CO2 emissions in 2010, bringing the average down to 132.3g/km.
Furthermore, announcements are planned regarding a new service, CITROEN MULTICITY, which allows for on-demand car rentals tailored to specific needs. With Citroën experiencing significant sales growth in Japan last year, its future developments are certainly worth watching.
