An Event to Promote EV Adoption Centered on Test Drives
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., which launched the "Leaf" last December, is holding test drive events and workshops featuring the car in various locations nationwide under the title "the new action TOUR." This initiative, aiming for implementation in all 47 prefectures, began in 2010 with the objective of allowing visitors to directly experience a feasible zero-emission society.
Events have already taken place in Kanagawa Prefecture (July 2010), Saitama City (August), Kitakyushu City (October), Yokohama City (December), and Miyazaki Prefecture (January 2011), totaling five locations. The next venue, scheduled for February 5th and 6th, will be Kyoto City.
Kyoto City, the sixth location, signed an "EV Adoption Partnership Agreement" in July 2010 with Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Horiba, Ltd., and others, to promote the use of electric vehicles and establish operational systems tailored to traffic conditions. This is reportedly part of the city's "Next Generation EV Kyoto Project" aimed at promoting eco-driving.
Currently, Kyoto City has 13 rapid chargers, 80 standard chargers (200V outlets), and 1 standard charger (100V outlet) installed (as of February 2nd), with rapid chargers being added daily.
Furthermore, the city is actively expanding EV infrastructure, including networking the locations of each charger and attempting to develop a system that allows users to check charger locations and usage status, demonstrating a high level of commitment.
This event will feature not only test drives but also a workshop discussing how to build better cities when EVs become widespread.
Nissan, together with France's Renault, has set a goal to "become the world leader in zero-emission vehicles" and has formed partnerships with over 80 governments, municipalities, and companies worldwide. The company plans to continue holding these events sequentially, primarily in these municipalities.
