Minor change gives it a face that more boldly asserts its SUV identity
Groupe PSA Japan has announced and launched sales of a minor change to the Citroën compact SUV, the C3 Aircross SUV.
The interior is also updated to be more chic and modern
Following its global launch in 2017, the B-segment C3 Aircross SUV arrives with a new generation brand face that more boldly asserts its SUV identity.
This new face, which will become Citroën's signature moving forward, was inspired by the "CXPERIENCE" concept car that debuted at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and has already been introduced in the "C3," which went on sale in Japan in January 2021. It presents a face that showcases Citroën's unique identity with a strong presence.
Chrome lines extending from the double chevron, Citroën's symbol, to the sides are split: the upper line leads to the daytime running lights, and the lower line connects to the LED headlights. The grille's design, with its emphasis on the vertical lines of the internal louvers, enhances the bonnet's presence and expresses SUV-like toughness.
The bumper, designed to resemble a skid plate at the lower part of the front bumper, has become more linear, further enhancing its modern and SUV-like appeal.
While the rear design retains its previous character, the Venetian blind-style decoration on the rear quarter panel has been altered. Combined with the blacked-out roof rails, the overall impression is one of chic refinement.
Inside, the vehicle features Advanced Comfort seats. By significantly increasing the special foam beneath the fabric from 2mm to 15mm, the seats offer not only a soft feel but also absorb micro-vibrations from the vehicle that can lead to fatigue. Their class-exceeding spaciousness and supportive design contribute to a comfortable driving posture.
Furthermore, by applying a heather grey fabric, matching the seat upholstery, to the instrument panel, a warm interior is created in unity with the seats, exuding a chic and modern atmosphere.
The rear seats can be moved independently on each side. Sliding both seats forward to their maximum extent creates a luggage compartment of up to 520 liters, the largest in its class. Folding down all rear seats reveals a luggage space of 1,289 liters.
The powertrain consists of a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine producing a maximum output of 96kW (130ps) and a maximum torque of 230Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission (EAT6).
Grip Control, an evolution of traction control that leverages Citroën's expertise in powertrain and vehicle dynamics control honed on the rally field, is also available as an option. Citroën states that it integrates various algorithms based on road conditions to collectively control powertrain output characteristics and braking, thereby maximizing tire grip and optimizing traction.
The body colors include new options such as Khaki Grey and Volcanic Blue, totaling five colors. The price is 2,935,000 yen, while the "SHINE package," which includes a panoramic roof, Grip Control, and HiFi speakers, is priced at 3,180,000 yen.
