Aston Martin: A Design for the Next Century
At the Geneva Motor Show, Aston Martin is energetically exhibiting new models, starting with the anticipated "Vulcan." On the first day of the show, CEO Andy Palmer, who has been in his role for over 150 days, confidently presented the "DBX Concept," a concept model for the future. This is a meticulously crafted model by Aston Martin, designed with the next 100 years in mind.
The directive given to the development team was to "redefine the high-luxury GT segment by breaking existing conventions and develop a product that expands future possibilities." Born from this objective, the DBX Concept was created with the goal of broadening Aston Martin's appeal to a more diverse global audience than ever before.
The redefined high-luxury grand touring experience is not only about sophisticated, opulent, and comfortable travel, but also about being more practical, family-friendly, and environmentally conscious.
The design of the DBX Concept by Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman aims to fuse Aston Martin's signature elegant design with new technology. It is envisioned as a grand tourer capable of comfortably seating four adults, powered by a four-wheel-drive electric drivetrain utilizing lithium-ion batteries. The full-electric configuration eliminates the need for an engine bay, allowing for trunk space at both the front and rear of the car.
The exterior, designed to allow one to "view the car as if it were a jewel," showcases Aston's craftsmanship through the use of authentic materials. The paint finish, aiming to replicate the texture of black pearl, involves layering multiple thin coats and meticulous attention to the paint's reflectivity.
The interior extensively uses soft-touch nubuck leather, creating a cocoon-like ambiance. Reichman explained, "By integrating craftsmanship found in high-end jewelry and exquisite artisanal pieces into the car, we aimed to appeal to the world with the charm of the DBX Concept."
Future-oriented mechanisms include "drive-by-wire steering," which replaces physical steering input with electrical signals, an anti-glare "smart glass" that automatically adjusts interior light levels, head-up displays tailored for the driver and passengers, and carbon-ceramic brakes equipped with the KERS energy recovery system.
CEO Palmer stated, "The DBX Concept expresses the potential and future evolution of the high-luxury GT segment, and the "aesthetics of possibility" as envisioned by Aston Martin." He also hinted at the possibility of future production models, suggesting it would not remain merely a concept.
