6.5 meters long, the longest and most luxurious Mercedes
From the Mercedes-Benz sub-brand announced at last autumn's Los Angeles Auto Show,Mercedes-Maybachcomes the luxurious limousine, the "Pullman," as its second model.
The name "Pullman" originates from the luxurious trains popular in America from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. Mercedes-Benz began using the name in 1965 for a model within the W100 "600" series. Since then, the "Pullman" designation has been applied to models featuring an exceptionally long wheelbase and the resulting expansive rear seating space. Now, exactly 50 years after its debut, the Pullman is presented as an independent model under Mercedes-Maybach in 2015.
The Mercedes-Maybach Pullman, set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, measures 6,499mm in length, making it 1,053mm longer than the previously releasedMercedes-Maybach "S-Class". Its height is 1,598mm, with a wheelbase of 4,418mm.
The difference between the S-Class and the Pullman lies in the rear seating. While the S-Class offers ample space, it is essentially an extended version of a standard saloon. The Pullman, however, utilizes its extended body to accommodate up to six occupants. The cabin is divided by a partition between the front and rear seats, creating a limousine configuration with four passengers seated facing each other in the rear.
Of the four rear seats, two face forward and serve as executive seats for the owner or guests, while the two rear-facing seats are foldable. The executive seats offer extensive adjustability, providing passengers with supreme comfort. The backrest can recline up to 43.5 degrees, and the seat cushion's height and angle can be adjusted independently. The legroom is complemented by adjustable leg rests for angle and length, and the headrests come standard with extra cushions.
The partition separating the front and rear compartments is made of glass with adjustable transparency via a switch and can be raised or lowered electrically. Additionally, a 18.5-inch wide display, which retracts electrically, is also standard equipment in front of the partition.
The interior is enveloped in the finest leather, covering not only the door panels and pillars but also the roof liner, door edges, and seat consoles. This leather-clad roof also features analog instruments displaying speed, time, and outside temperature.
The audio system comes standard with a high-end Burnmaster surround sound system. For further enhancement, a high-end 3D surround sound system is also available as an upgrade.
The engine is the same as that in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class: a 5,980cc V12 twin-turbo, producing a maximum output of 390kW (530ps). It delivers a substantial maximum torque of 830Nm from just 1,900rpm.
The "Pullman" limousine, designed for VIPs such as corporate executives, heads of state, and royalty, offers extensive personalization options. Its price is expected to start at approximately 500,000 euros (around 67 million yen). The first deliveries are scheduled for early 2016.
