Packed with the Latest Technology within BMW's Design Motifs

Beijing Motor ShowUnveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, BMW's "Vision Future Luxury" is a four-door coupe concept car that embodies flowing styling, the latest IT technology, and modern luxury within a lightweight body. While retaining BMW's characteristic elements such as the kidney grille, slim four-eyed headlights, and the silhouette of a long hood with short overhangs, it is packed with new technologies in its functions and structure.

The body, with its sculpted, taut curves, was handcrafted by skilled modelers, not by computer. BMW describes its color, Liquid Platinum Bronze, as a luxurious paint that, while warm, exhibits a subtle shimmer. The door mirrors are supported by slender legs extending seamlessly from the window trim, creating an effect of them floating in mid-air.

The slim, horizontally oriented front headlights, reminiscent of BMW's iconic four-eyed design, employ BMW Laserlight technology. They boast approximately ten times the brightness of conventional LEDs and a longer illumination range. The rear combination lights use organic LED (OLED) illumination. By layering small elements, they create BMW's traditional L-shape, but the OLEDs themselves are an extremely thin material, just 400nm (0.0004 mm) thick, allowing the entire surface to emit light. This eliminates the need for reflectors and enables versatile application throughout the vehicle's interior and exterior.

A Special Space Created by a Lightweight Yet Robust Structure

The Vision Future Luxury achieves weight reduction through extensive use of carbon and aluminum. Notably, the seat frames are integrated directly into the door sills, reinforcing the body structure. This design eliminates the need for a conventional B-pillar, enabling the creation of an open, suicide-door configuration without compromising body rigidity.

The front seats are equipped with three LCD monitors. The one directly in front of the driver replaces traditional analog gauges, displaying essential driving information such as speed and RPM. The central "Driver Information Display" is for infotainment, and a touch-sensitive display near the glove compartment is for the front passenger. This display works in conjunction with the central infotainment display, allowing information to be swiped between them. This setup is envisioned for scenarios where detailed input is required, such as making reservations at theaters or restaurants, which can be delegated to the front passenger.

Furthermore, another display is provided for the front occupants: a head-up display projected onto the windshield. In addition to displaying speed, similar to current BMW models, it offers augmented reality (AR) capabilities by overlaying digital information onto the driver's view, highlighting relevant buildings or signs. This functionality is proposed for use as a driver assistant, for example, by emphasizing traffic signs and signals to alert the driver.

Given the coach doors, perhaps with chauffeur-driven use in mind, the rear seats offer a personal sanctuary. Two individual seats, combined with the carbon-fiber front seatbacks that also serve as structural elements, and an interior finished with premium materials like leather and wood, create an exclusive space enveloped in modern luxury. The rear seat displays can be operated via the detachable "Rear Seat Touch Command tablet" located in the center.

Rather than a complete concept vehicle, the "Vision Future Luxury" is a luxury coupe that condenses BMW's proposed future technologies. While its styling evokes the next-generation "6 Series Gran Coupe," these individual technologies are expected to be realized in future BMW models, such as the new "7 Series" and the rumored large coupe based on the 7 Series.
