New Compact SUV, Lexus NX, Makes World Premiere

LexusOn April 20 (Sunday), Lexus unveiled the new luxury compact crossover, the Lexus "NX," at the Beijing Motor Show.

The lineup includes two models: the "NX200t," equipped with Lexus's first newly developed 2.0-liter turbo engine, and the "NX300h," which uses a hybrid system combining a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine with a motor. The body dimensions for both are 4,630mm in length, 1,845mm in width, and 1,645mm in height.

The downsized, newly developed 2.0-liter turbo engine incorporates numerous new technologies, including the world's first water-cooled exhaust manifold integrated cylinder head and a twin-scroll turbocharger.

Furthermore, a new 6-speed automatic transmission has been developed to complement this turbo engine, maximizing its torque for excellent responsiveness to accelerator input. The NX also features Lexus's first idle stop function.

Meanwhile, the "NX300h" utilizes a hybrid powertrain combining a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine and a torque motor, contributing to low fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions. To enhance ride comfort and driving stability, it employs body roll control, finely adjusting the drive motor's torque to suppress vehicle movement.

The NX200t is equipped with Dynamic Control AWD, which automatically adjusts front-wheel and four-wheel drive. By finely distributing torque to the rear wheels according to vehicle behavior, it enhances cornering performance.

Additionally, Lexus is introducing the Panoramic View Monitor, which displays a bird's-eye view of the vehicle on the navigation screen. In the future, an "F SPORT" model is planned, featuring a sportier exterior and interior design, along with specially tuned suspension.
