Lexus's new SUV aims to be urban sports gear

Last year'sFrankfurt Motor Show, andTokyo Motor Show, the Lexus concept model "LF-NX" garnered much attention. Now, it finally debuts as a production model at the Beijing Motor Show.

Previously, Lexus had the SUV model "RX", but this new model is a more compact crossover SUV. Its concept is "Premium Urban Sports Gear." While the visual impact has been toned down from the show model, Lexus states it has been crafted as sports gear that blends high functionality with design beauty, an SUV suited for urban use and the environmental era.

The signature large spindle grille, a Lexus hallmark, is naturally carried over to the NX. Combined with the L-shaped, triple-LED headlights, it creates a sharp front fascia. Furthermore, the prominently flared fenders enhance its powerful SUV presence. The roofline, drawn in a sweeping arc, ensures ample headroom for rear passengers while also creating a dynamic side silhouette.

The interior continues Lexus's established design language, but the center of the dashboard features a frame with a machined metal texture. This adds to the robust structure characteristic of an SUV, while the combination with leather enhances the sophisticated cabin ambiance.

Infotainment controls are consolidated on the center console, featuring the new Remote Touch interface with a touchpad for intuitive operation. It also includes "Qi wireless charging," allowing users to simply place smartphones or other compatible devices on the tray in the center console box to charge them. For the first time in a Lexus, it also incorporates a Panoramic View Monitor, G-sensor display, and turbo boost pressure display.

The model lineup is expected to include two variants: the "NX200t," powered by a newly developed 2.0-liter turbo engine, and the "NX300h," equipped with a 2.5-liter hybrid system.
