Open-Top "M"
At the New York Auto Show, held from April 16th, BMW will hold the world premiere of the "M4 Convertible" alongside the previously announced "X4".
As its name suggests, the M4 Convertible is the open-top version of the "M4 Coupe" engineered by M, or the top model of the "4 Series Convertible". Beneath the hood, made of aluminum for weight reduction, is the ""M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe"'s 3.0-liter inline-six M TwinPower Turbo engine. It produces a maximum output of 317 kW (431 ps) and a peak torque of 550 Nm. The transmission is a 6-speed manual as standard, with an optional 7-speed M-DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) also available.
Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a CFRP propeller shaft. Like the M3 and M4, weight reduction dramatically lowers the rotational mass generated by the shaft itself.
The rear axle features an Active M Differential. In conjunction with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), this electronically controlled multi-plate LSD distributes torque freely between 0-100 percent based on throttle input, wheel speed, and yaw angle, ensuring optimal traction at all times.
The vehicle weighs 1,750 kg (DIN), 60 kg lighter than its predecessor. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 4.4 seconds with the 7-speed M-DCT. Fuel economy is rated at 9.1-8.7 L/100km (approximately 11.0-11.5 km/L), with CO2 emissions of 213-203 g/km.

Transformation from Sports Coupe to Sporty Open-Top in Under 20 Seconds
The exterior features characteristic M model elements such as a three-part, sculpted front apron, kidney grilles with black double bars, door mirrors supported by slender arms, twin exhaust pipes on each side, and a rear diffuser. Standard wheels are 18-inch BMW M Double-spoke, with 19-inch options available.
The power-operated convertible roof is a three-part hardtop. A noise-reducing liner enhances quietness, reportedly lowering wind noise by up to 2 dB. The roof opens or closes in under 20 seconds and can be operated while driving at speeds up to 18 km/h. Trunk capacity is 220 liters with the roof open and 370 liters when closed.
The front seats are M4 Convertible exclusive sport leather seats with Air Scarf and illuminated "M" logos. The rear seats are two individual leather seats. The optional Head-Up Display is also M-specific, supporting features like gear position, rev counter, and shift indicator.
Additionally, as the top model of the 4 Series Convertible, it is equipped with BMW's latest technologies, including BMW ConnectedDrive, a 3D navigation system, Driving Assistant Plus, LED high-beam assistant, and Active Protection with attention assist.
The M4 Convertible, the fifth generation counting from the M3 era, makes its debut at the New York Auto Show. As it has not been officially introduced to Japan in previous generations, its domestic market status remains undecided.
