Cadillac Adds a Stylish Coupe to the ATS Lineup

Cadillac has added a new coupe to its entry-level ATS model, unveiling it at the Detroit Motor Show. This coupe model is poised to further enhance the already considerable attention garnered by the ATS, which has received numerous awards in North America. It also represents Cadillac's ambitious challenge to the luxury D-segment in North America, a market previously dominated by European premium brands.

A New Lineup, Also Coming to Japan

General Motors, at the Detroit Motor Show,Cadillac ATSunveiled the two-door "ATS Coupe" as an addition to its lineup.Cadillac ATS Sedanis also available in Japan and is the most compact model in Cadillac's lineup.

Uwe Ellinghaus, Chief Marketing Officer of Global Cadillac, commented, "The Cadillac ATS Coupe is a model aimed at younger customers targeted by Cadillac. It offers driving enjoyment and Cadillac's cutting-edge technology, with a distinct personality that sets it apart from rivals. This coupe is an American model that leads the compact luxury class, providing a sporty and refined driving experience." He expressed the company's ambition to challenge the premium D-segment, where European brands are currently popular.

The striking exterior largely retains the image of the ATS sedan, adapted into a two-door coupe. The more steeply raked rear window, larger in area than the sedan's, along with a lowered beltline, creates a distinctive coupe silhouette. Unlike the ATS sedan's front air intake split into three sections below the bumper, the ATS Coupe features a continuous air intake design across the lower front fascia, successfully enhancing its sporty image by emphasizing a wide and low stance.

The ATS Coupe essentially utilizes the same mechanical underpinnings as the ATS sedan, which was launched in Japan last year. It adopts a 50:50 front-rear weight distribution FR platform inherited from the Cadillac CTS. The engine is a high-performance 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo, boasting 136 ps per liter. However, compared to the ATS sedan, the engine's torque has been increased by approximately 14 percent. The official figures are 203 kW (272 ps) for maximum output and 400 Nm (40.8 kgm) for maximum torque.

The transmission is a conventional 6-speed automatic. A 6-speed manual is also available in the North American specification. Another notable feature is the availability of a 4WD model in addition to the FR layout. However, models sold in Japan will all be FR, similar to the sedan.

Body dimensions are 4,663 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width, and 1,392 mm in height. Compared to the sedan, it is slightly longer and wider, with the ride height lowered by approximately 30 mm. The wheelbase remains unchanged from the sedan at 2,775 mm (all comparisons based on North American specifications).

While the introduction date is yet to be determined, the Cadillac ATS Coupe is confirmed for the Japanese market. This will bring Cadillac's lineup in Japan to two ATS models, the CTS in sedan and sport wagon variants, the SRX Crossover and Escalade SUVs, and one V-series model, totaling seven vehicles.CTS, and two SUV models, theSRX Crossoverand Escalade, plus one V-series model, for a total of seven vehicles.
