9-Speed AT and 4WD Adopted on Alfa Chassis
The Chrysler 200, a mid-size sedan from Chrysler, has transitioned to its second generation, moving from the "JS platform" based on the previous Chrysler Sebring to the "Compact Wide platform" shared with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show.
The Chrysler 200 also served as the basis for the Lancia Flavia sold in Europe. However, by switching from a Chrysler platform to an Alfa Romeo platform, production efficiency and a sportier ride can be achieved. This marks the adoption of the same platform for the third Chrysler lineup vehicle, following the Dodge Dart and Jeep Cherokee. Incidentally, the open-top "200 Convertible" will continue to be sold as the previous model.
The door and window shapes are largely borrowed from the Dodge Dart, but the sharp front fascia and flowing body lines are distinctive exterior features. The adoption of LED daytime running lights (DRL), fog lights, and taillights, along with a design that emphasizes the entire front face's transition to a new generation rather than just the grille, creates a simple yet powerful appearance with a grille that is blacked out and features only the emblem.
Furthermore, higher-end models feature 19-inch black wheels (standard wheels range from 17 inches) and dual chrome exhaust finishers integrated into the rear bumper, split to the left and right. These sporty aesthetics are likely to appeal to a younger demographic.

Interior Design Inspired by Famous American Locations
The noteworthy engines are the 3.6-liter "Pentastar" V6, producing a class-leading 295 hp and 262 lb-ft (36.2 kgm) of torque, and the 2.4-liter inline-4 "MultiAir2", derived from the Dodge Dart, which produces 184 hp and 173 lb-ft (23.9 kgm) of torque. Chrysler calls these power units "Tigershark" engines.
Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The 4-cylinder Tigershark engine achieves a 13% improvement in fuel economy while simultaneously increasing power by 10% and torque by 6% compared to the previous model. While primarily front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive is available as an option for the higher-end "S" and "C" models. This transmission is controlled by a rotary dial shifter called "Rotary E-Shift," similar to Jaguar's system. Paddle shifters are also provided on the steering wheel for a sportier driving experience.
The interior is constructed with high-quality materials, featuring extensive use of soft-touch padding. The interior color and trim combinations are available in specifications inspired by famous American locations, including Fifth Avenue in New York, as well as California and Detroit. A 7-inch information display in the center of the instrument cluster shows various information, and the infotainment system, centered around an 8.4-inch touchscreen called "UCONNECT" by Chrysler, is also adopted. This allows for intuitive operation of audio, navigation, climate control, and hands-free mobile phone functions.
The Chrysler 200 is produced at the Chrysler Group's Sterling Heights plant in Michigan, which has undergone a significant investment of over $1 billion. This factory, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including automated body manufacturing processes, efficient assembly lines, and new painting processes, has succeeded in reducing energy consumption during production by approximately 40% compared to conventional factories.
