The Second in a Trilogy of Design Concepts

Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President of Design, who has led Volvo's design department since last year, is exploring how to fuse the company's renowned safety technology and modern Scandinavian design with the new 'Scalable Product Architecture' that will be adopted from the next 'XC90'.

To embody the versatility and design potential of Volvo's new generation architecture, three concept cars are planned. The first of these was unveiled at theFrankfurt Motor Showand was exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show. It was the concept model as a mid-to-large coupe, thedebutConcept Coupe.


Then, in January in Detroit, the second future Volvo design concept, the 'Concept XC Coupe,' will be introduced. As the name 'XC' suggests, this time it incorporates SUV elements, and is expected to be a crossover model merging SUV and coupe characteristics.


Currently, only partial photographs and a short movie have been released. Details are scheduled to be unveiled on January 8th, prior to the press day of the Detroit Motor Show on January 13th.
