Inspired by the Second-Generation "Nuova 500"
LA Auto ShowThe "1957 Edition" of the Fiat 500 (Cinque cento), which had its world premiere at the LA Auto Show, is a special model celebrating the 57th anniversary of the birth of the iconic "Nuova 500"—the second-generation Fiat 500—by projecting the design and color palette of that era onto the current Fiat 500.
Based on the 2014 Fiat 500 Lounge, the "1957 Edition" features classic body colors, wheel designs inspired by the 1957 model, a Bianco (white) painted roof, and vintage-style "FIAT" emblems, all drawing inspiration from the historically significant "Nuova 500."
The body colors are classic solid hues: Bianco (white), Verde Chiaro (light green), and Celeste (light blue), a special color that also serves as the image color. Three options are available.
The roof and door mirror covers are exclusively Bianco, creating a two-tone finish with the body color. Considering that the original Nuova 500 featured a retractable canvas top, it might have been interesting to see this offered on the Fiat 500C as well.
The wheels feature a design inspired by the steel wheel covers of the 1957 "Nuova 500." A bold combination of body color and white is accented by a large, classic FIAT logo. The wheels are 16 inches and come with all-season tires, typical for the American market. Sport suspension is also available as an option.
The interior presents a beautiful contrast with an Avorio (ivory) dashboard and Marrone (chestnut) seats and shift boot. Grigio (grey) metallic door panels and shift knob also contribute to the classic ambiance. The steering wheel and key feature the classic FIAT logo, maintaining the retro theme throughout.
While the exterior and interior exude a retro style, the car is, of course, the latest version of the 2014 Fiat 500. It is powered by a 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder MultiAir engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
The Nuova 500, the second-generation Fiat 500, began production in 1957 and ceased in 1975, with a total of 3,893,294 units shipped. Although the production numbers for the "1957 Edition" have not been disclosed, its revival of a legendary icon is sure to capture attention.
