The Legacy Celebrates 25 Years

Since its debut in 1989, the "Legacy" has reigned as Subaru's flagship model. Its exceptional driving performance and safety, realized through Subaru's unique horizontally-opposed engine and Symmetrical AWD, are well-known and have earned it a global following and high praise.

Sales in North America, in particular, were strong, with 390,000 units sold in the fiscal year ending March, a 26.4 percent increase year-on-year. This figure surpasses the mid-term business plan target set for fiscal year 2016, indicating a period of exceptional growth. Consequently, this announcement at the LA Auto Show holds significant importance for the company.

The current fifth-generation Legacy, now approaching its 25th anniversary in 2014, will be preceded by the unveiling of a mid-size sedan concept model that expresses the design direction of the next-generation Legacy sedan.

The exterior features large-diameter tires, flared fenders, and a dynamic, flowing body shape that tapers towards the rear while ensuring ample interior space, all conveying a sense of powerful driving. The special "Ocean Silver Metallic" exterior color achieves a strong, bluish metallic sheen.

The front fascia, similar to the "SUBARU VIZIV CONCEPT" which premiered at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, utilizes a three-dimensional design that extends from the hexagonal grille—a symbol of Subaru's new generation design—across the entire body, creating a dynamic and solid form. The rear also features combination lamps sharing a motif with the headlamps, combined with hexagonal-based styling to achieve a deep and dynamic design.SUBARU VIZIV CONCEPTThe interior is designed as a sporty space where four adults can relax comfortably. The center console features a multi-information display with touch controls, similar to smartphones and tablet PCs. A large floor console running through the center of the cabin is also equipped with a touch-panel multi-information display for rear passengers.

Additionally, the front edge of the roof trim houses Subaru's unique driver assistance system, "EyeSight." A head-up display, projecting EyeSight's operating status onto the highly visible front windshield, is integrated to support an environment that allows the driver to concentrate more on driving.
