An Homage to the Type 57SC Atlantic and Its Creator
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Bugatti presented the "Jean Bugatti" special edition of the "Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse" which boasts an output of 1,200 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque. This marks the second installment in the "Bugatti Legends" series, which began with "Jean-Pierre Wimille" announced in July at Pebble Beach.
Jean Bugatti, born Gianoberto Carlo Rembrandt Ettore Bugatti, was the eldest son of Bugatti founder Ettore Bugatti. Inheriting his father's talent, he possessed a natural gift for engine development, chassis design, and body styling. At the young age of 27 in 1936, he rose to lead Bugatti. Just three years later, in 1939, he tragically died in an accident during a test drive. During his tenure, he was responsible for several models, including the elegantly designed Type 57.
Among the famed Type 57 models, the exquisite "Type 57SC Atlantic" coupe is considered one of the most valuable among rare and expensive vintage cars. This year at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, fashion designerRalph Laurenexhibited this car and won "Best of Show," a memory that is still fresh.
This limited edition model is an homage to Jean Bugatti and the Type 57SC Atlantic. In particular, it draws design inspiration from "La Voiture Noire" (meaning "The Black Car"), the first of only four units ever produced. This particular vehicle was driven by Jean Bugatti himself and carries the mystery of its disappearance during transport in World War II.
The body is finished in black and clear-coated carbon fiber, with the signature horseshoe grille at the front and other accents featuring a brilliant platinum color for the first time on a Veyron. Jean Bugatti's signature is laser-etched onto the fuel cap and sill plates. The interior is unified in chocolate brown and beige, echoing the original. The silhouette of the Type 57SC Atlantic is embroidered on the door panels and the rear storage surfaces.
Like the previous Bugatti Legends installment, only three units of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse "Jean Bugatti" Edition will be manufactured, with a price tag of 2.28 million euros (approximately 300 million yen).
