The Artura's Open-Top Model, Refined for Deeper Driver Connection
McLaren introduces a convertible variant to its PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) high-performance car, the Artura, releasing it as the "Artura Spider."

The highly anticipated convertible model, the "Artura Spider," has arrived, joining the "Artura," which debuted in 2021 as McLaren's first mass-produced high-performance hybrid supercar.
The "Artura Spider" boasts upgraded power and performance compared to the coupe, with an even greater sense of connection between driver and machine.
The powertrain features a mid-mounted 3.0-liter V6 engine with twin-scroll turbochargers, producing 605 PS and 585 Nm of torque, paired with an electric motor. The combined system output is boosted from 680 PS to 700 PS, with a maximum torque of 720 Nm.
The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 7.4 kWh, extending the EV-only range to 33 km from 30 km. Despite being a PHEV, the dry weight is kept to 1,475 kg, achieving a power-to-weight ratio of 480 PS/t. Top speed is 330 km/h, with 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.0 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 8.4 seconds.
The integrated, electrically operated retractable hardtop can be opened or closed in 11 seconds, and can operate at speeds up to 50 km/h. Drivers can enjoy the quietness of EV driving alongside the sensory experience of open-air motoring, with its connection to nature through scents and sounds.
During the development of the "Artura Spider," a particular focus was placed on enhancing the connection between the driver and the car.
The crucial powertrain mounts have been newly developed to enhance dynamic performance. These new mounts are tuned to improve the control of the powertrain within the chassis, specifically managing its movement under load. This enhances steering stability, steering feel, and overall vehicle agility, designed to foster a greater sense of connection for the driver.
In addition to the default "Comfort" hybrid driving mode, there are "E-Mode" for electric-only propulsion, and "Sport" and "Track" settings with increased assistance. Electronic stability control can also be adjusted to suit driver preference, weather, and road conditions.
While the exterior incorporates the retractable hardtop and associated modifications, it remains instantly recognizable as an "Artura." Signature features like the trademark hammerhead nose and the louvers integrated into the front fenders are carried over.
However, there are also new functional elements unique to the open-top model. The buttresses incorporate a rollover structure, and the glazed sections enhance rearward visibility while also directing airflow around the engine bay.
Furthermore, the heated rear glass screen, positioned between the buttresses, can be raised or lowered with the touch of a button. This optimizes comfort when the roof is open and allows the exhaust note to fill the cabin when the roof is closed.
The cabin also inherits the coupe's design, with interior trim options available in performance-focused or luxury-oriented materials, depending on the driver's preference.
The "Artura Spider" is priced at £221,500 (approximately ¥42 million) in the UK, with deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-2024. Additionally, a 2025 model year "MY25" coupe version of the "Artura," featuring similar enhancements to the "Artura Spider," is also planned for release.
